Hochstetler aged 86 died at 2 20 p m Monday at the home of her daughter Mrs Shannon Fourie in Melbourne Iowa after several months bedridden Funeral services set for Thursday at 2 p m at the Kalona Christian church Burial at Sharon Hill cemetery Her body remains at Peterseim Son funeral home until Wednesday when taken to son Virgil Hochstetlers Kalona home Survivors include son Virgil two daughters Mrs Fourie and Mrs Harvey Armour Seattle six grandchildren and one great grandchild

Marine Corps to Activate 50 000 Volunteers in Mobilization

Washington AP reports the Marine Corps plans to activate 50 000 officers and men in its volunteer reserve between August 15 and October 31 to reach a 174 000 mobilization level two months early. Army and air force mobilization plans also advance, with Navy unchanged. The move follows prior calls for 44 000 current reserves and signals a broader expansion ahead of June 30 1951 deadlines. Vinson seeks an additional 50 000 enlisted Marines and more officers before June 30.

Florence Chadwick Sets Women’s English Channel Record

Two Injured In Auto Collision Near Temple Corner

Two people, Harley Notestine of Des Moines and Mrs. Frank Hizey of Mount Union, Iowa, were treated at Washington County Hospital for cuts and bruises after a two car crash at the Temple corner on Highway 92. The Hizey car skidded on wet pavement, the Notestine vehicle struck it broadside, causing major damage. An ambulance delay led a soft drink truck to pull over, but it rolled over in the ditch, spilling about twenty five cases of pop.

Mrs. Carl Hancher Dies At Home In Washington

Mrs. Carl Hancher, 6), native of the Columbus Junction area and longtime Washington resident, died at 1 PM at 725 West Monroe Street. Funeral services set for August 10 at 2 PM at Jones funeral home with burial in Ainsworth cemetery. She was born March 30, 1890, near Conesville and married Carl Hancher November 25, 1909. Survivors include her husband, a daughter Mildred Allen of Davenport, brother R. R. Blake of Davenport, sister Bessie Reece of Columbus Junction, and several nieces and nephews. One sister preceded her in death.

Don Burger Takes Post With Weld County Commission
