Mrs. Margaret Gray Dies at Columbus Jct
Mrs. Margaret Zane Gray, 92, died Sunday on a farm near Columbus Junction where she had lived since 1877. Born November 21, 1857 near Centerville, she taught two years, married James Kidward Gray in 1877, who died in 1923. Survived by daughter Edith Pierce, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren. Funeral 3:50 p.m. Tuesday at Edith Pierce’s home. Burial in Columbus City Cemetery. Body at Stacy Funeral Home. Family lived on the farm for 110 years.

Richard H. Crowe a banker freed from federal prison after one third of a three year sentence for stealing $883.60 and bank bonds. He walked out into the arms of his wife Honora and their three children after good behavior and parole. Most of the fortune was recovered except $6,000. Mrs. S H Johnston, 76, of Columbus Junction died Sunday at Belleview hospital Muscatine after a stroke on July 15. Funeral Wednesday at 1 30 p m United Presbyterian church with Rev Harold C Irwin of Indianapolis in charge. Burial in Columbus City cemetery. She taught school, was postmaster at Columbus City, and survived by husband John Howard Johnston a son a daughter a sister a brother and a grandchild.

William Morton Keeley 76 of Ivanston Illinois died after a heart attack. Graveside services are planned for Wednesday at 6 30 pm in Elm Grove Cemetery with Dr W W Bowers in charge. Keeley, born May 1 1874 in Washington, practiced law in Chicago and was a charter Washington Rotary member. He married Alice Fluke in June 1908 and is survived by his wife two daughters five grandchildren and one deceased son.

Big Catfish Landed By Two Local Residents
John Wood and Bacon White hauled the so called granddaddy catfish from the Cedar River this weekend. They used a live frog bait and a minnow net to land the slate blue fish about four miles north of the Louis Jones cabin. The fish measured 4135 inches and weighed 35 pounds after nine hours out of water. It was not a flathead or channel cat but a Mississippi river type.

Burlington reports that communists fascists and fellow travelers are barred from CIO Town state industrial union council offices by a constitutional amendment. Delegates also condemned communists and fellow travelers in local unions for trying to mislead the public about the United States and United Nations. A US air base in California reports 19 dead and 60 injured after a B-29 experienced runaway propellers and exploded bombs near a trailer camp. Commander Brig. Gen. Robert F. Travis died. pilot Capt. Young Iowan Dies After Search for Utopia
Clifford Kruse of Dubuque Iowa dies on Losuia Island in the Trobriands east of New Guinea after a year long quest for Utopia in the South Seas. He contracted poliomyelitis spreading in the area and had complained of quarantine detention while awaiting Korean War service as a marine reservist. The UPI correspondent had reported his year long search and his remark that escape from world worries was impossible. He was the son of Mrs. Leonard Kruse.
