Ottumwa officials meet insurance adjusters to settle claims from the east wing fire that destroyed the armory coliseum. The group did not estimate damage, heard several figures, and planned to send rebuilding tasks to contractors with bids to be approved at a later meeting.
Two men robbed the Coryell filling station of 55 dollars after fueling their car. The vehicle’s license was traced to a Clarinda used car lot. They were last seen speeding north on highway 71.
Des Moines: Maurice’s elevator operator Reynolds 30 leaped from the stalled cab between the seventh and eighth floors. He swung to the lower floor, overbalanced, fell four stories, and was stopped by a loop in a power line. He suffered rope burns and was hospitalized.
Jake Koerperich reported his purse containing a $19 check and $5 cash missing at the police station and then downtown. A friend who asked for details returned the purse saying he found it in a downtown restaurant last night.
John Gorman of Hills owned a car that rolled 40 feet from an alley striking L. A. Scott who was unloading freight. Scott was pinned against the truck and fatally injured.

Tenanted by Jake Nevenhoven the loss tops 7000 dollars. Embers blown a quarter mile scorched a Clara Diemer farm run by Henry Miller destroying two straw stacks 15 acres of hay and 15 loads of hay.

Howard Stewart of seventy six township near Keota lost his car and the garage housing it in an early morning blaze, believed caused by a short circuit. Keota fire crews arrived after the fire began around six, and insurance covers the garage loss.
Florence Clark, 18, disappeared after going uptown to shop in Iowa City on June 29. Parents Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Clark report the six week search yielding no clues or trace of the girl. Authorities and volunteers continue efforts to locate her.
John Barrymore, renowned actor, is prepared to testify in the custody suit of Mary Astor against her former husband Dr Thorpe. His attorney said Barrymore has no objection to testifying next week after leaving a ganbitarium in Los Angeles where he is currently.
Funeral services for Dr. M. Dicken were held yesterday afternoon at Sherman’s funeral home with Rev. Cc. E. Strong officiating. Pallbearers included Dr. O. F. Boller Dr. Fred Reid Charles Thomas John Cunningham Will Dupuis and J. Wu. Lemmon. Burial followed in Woodlawn cemetery.
Charles Atkinson died at 11 30 today at his home 402 West Second street after two years of illness. Funeral services set for 2 30 Monday at Shermans funeral home with Rev M C Carstensen of the Baptist church officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Born May 4 1848 in Wauchunk Pennsylvania he moved to Stark county Ohio in 1865 and later Washington county in 1890. Surviving are his widow Laura Finley Atkinson five children and several grandchildren. He was a longtime believer who joined the Methodist church and later attended the Church of the Nazarene at Okalooea.

Iowa 4-H club girls will demonstrate home efficiency gadgets and better household practices at the Iowa state fair. Participants from 25 counties will compete in classes covering clothing nutrition home furnishing and health with jellies preserves and pickles shown for the first time.
Dr. Etter of Washington Iowa is named as osteopathic physician to conduct health examinations at the statewide health clinic during the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines from August 28 through September 4. The clinic, under the Iowa Osteopathic Society, will examine adults and offer daily public health talks. Forty physicians have been selected to conduct the examinations this year.
Davenport Mrs. H P Holiday of Crystal Lake Illinois is in Mercy hospital with a broken back after a jolting accident involving a paying dip.
Andrew J Johnson 74 longtime Brighton mayor died at his son Edgar's home in San Benito Texas where he spent the summer. He served ten years as mayor and was postmaster for twelve years. Survived by Maggie his widow four sons Edgar Oscar Don and Dean one brother Charles one sister Effie McCarty. funeral details unavailable.
Capt. Ernst Lehman of the Hindenberg told Lakehurst naval air station he would not land until six p m local time. The German airliner with about 50 passengers circled New York then headed southward. The craft dropped a package containing Olympic pictures in Berlin.
Dr. Charles Van Riper stayed with Dr. and Mrs. Henry C. Hull yesterday and departed for Iowa City last night.
Mrs Holliday suffered a back injury after her car struck a paving dip and she was thrown to the top of the vehicle. She will remain in a cast for about three months while returning from a vacation trip.
Sheriff Har M. Putnam reports a car owned by P. L. Fenn stolen Thursday night was found today near the Centennial school building out of gas. The thieves abandoned it. Another car owned by Bill Shannon, stolen the same night, was found yesterday in Sunset Park, also out of gasoline.
