Barn Blaze Destroys Altenhofen Farm Buildings and Hay
A large barn on Maurice Altenhofen’s farm northwest of Washington burned late Monday afternoon, destroying 5,000 bales of hay and 1,200 bales of straw plus farm machinery. Neighbors’ equipment and hay stored in the barn were lost, while fire crews kept flames from spreading to nearby structures. The fire was reported shortly before 5 pm and volunteers remained on scene into the night.

City Budget Hearing Set for August 20 in Washington
City council approved the 1962-63 budget estimate and scheduled a public hearing for August 20 at 8 p.m. in city hall. Pam Hite Completes Drum Major Camp Study
Pam Hite returned from a two week stay at the Smith-Walbridge Camp for drum majors in Syracuse Indiana where she earned certification as a drum major first class and a twirling instructor. Rath Packing Workers Return to Jobs in Waterloo
