Roy B. Downs 81 a Washington carpenter died Sunday August 6 1961 at the local hospital. He lived at 702 East Jefferson Street and is buried Elm Grove Cemetery after services at Sherman Eden Funeral Home. He was born October 21 1879 in Brighton and married Lakie Anderson in 1930 who died in 1944. He was a World War I veteran and is survived by a nephew Roy Nowell of Arkansas.

Married October 10, 1888 to Margaret Casper who died in Big Survivors: two daughters Mrs. Lloyd Sharp Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Paul Stumpf Richmond. three sons Louis Cedar Rapids Verne Davenport and Harry Muscatine. 20 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. She was born July 15 1886 in Washington County daughter of Milo and Mary Ellen Hawkins Patterson. Married Blaine J Holmes February 20 1908 they lived on a farm until 1917. Mr Holmes died May 17 1960. Survivors include a twin sister Mrs Walter Harvey of Los Angeles California and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

Nine Die On Iowa Highways In Weekend Toll
A weekend of crashes and a drowning killed nine in Iowa with twelve fatalities overall.
