An army spokesman said tank killing shaped charge shells for 90 mm guns are now in or on the way to U.S. troops in Korea. A Marine Corps C-46 transport carrying explosives from Cherry Point to Moffett Field crash landed near Tinker Air Force Base outside Oklahoma City. A Washington county farmer recounts an odd incident in an oats field where a tailless skunk appeared during harvest. The combine operator joked about tail theft as the skunk trotted along, vanished into the oats, then returned with its tail in its mouth before fleeing across the field.

Robert Lee Badger 8?7 died suddenly of a heart attack at 7:45 this morning at 423 South Seventh. He had been in failing health for years. The funeral is 2 PM Monday at Sherman’s Funeral Home with Rev. W. J. Grossheim officiating. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. He was born October 12, 1862 in Memphis Tennessee, married Mary O Newton May 1 1894, and lived in Indiana Kansas Oregon Washington before returning to this county in 1920. He was a farmer and dairyman and a Presbyterian. He is survived by his wife. Four sisters and two brothers are deceased.
Mrs Leonard Bates of Wellman sustained a broken back after a pickup driven by her husband Ayr Bates rolled over in a ditch near Harper. She was treated at Washington county hospital then moved to Iowa City. Authorities say Bates fell asleep, causing the gravel road crash at about 2 30 Saturday morning.
Lake Success New York United Press reports that Russia’s peace plan calling for immediate withdrawal of all foreign troops from Korea is viewed as a Kremlin shell game by Western observers. Soviet delegate Malik used a surprise council maneuver to adjourn the UN Security Council, drawing praise and criticism as a propaganda move that keeps attention on Korea while delaying decisive action.
United Press reports Tokyo 8th Army halting southern communist attacks and destroying a tank spearhead in the north near the Naktong river line. Reds reportedly mass troops at ends of the line for a final push on Pusan and Taegu. American air forces sink a 10,000 ton freighter at Inchon and damage several North Korean ships. Lake Success hints Russia’s withdrawal plan as possible propaganda but viewed by the West as hypocritical.
State University of Iowa tennis coach Don Klotz visits Washington for a Wednesday clinic on the Lincoln school court. Mrs Frances L McCoy Cherry died at Mercy hospital Iowa City at 730 PM Friday. The body was removed to Jones funeral home. Funeral arrangements likely for Tuesday depending on word from relatives away.

Connie Skubal nine daughter of Mr and Mrs Percy Skubal of Round Grove near Haskins is treated at Washington county hospital for brain concussion cuts and bruises after a bicycle crash on a steep hill near her home Friday morning. She was found unconscious beside the road about an hour after the wheel locked and she was thrown from the bike. The bicycle slid 12 feet and she was thrown farther. A hospital report says her condition improved.
Mrs. Calvin Noltee finds two bold wrens have taken over her outdoor clothes pin bag in Richmond. They built a nest inside the bag and she cannot access her pins, leaving her to plan borrowing pins from neighbors for the rest of the summer.
