Dynamite blast kills man on Iowa farm and injures two
On a farm southwest of Tripoli an eastern Iowa man Vernon Everding was killed and Ronald Bergman and Lowell Busch injured when dynamite used to break rock exploded. An air hammer touched off the blast during rock work on the Everding property. Bergman was hospitalized for eye surgery in Iowa City and Busch in Waterloo in good condition.

Two Washington County men charged in hog theft
Two Washington County men face larceny charges after 11 head of swine were stolen from the Jim Flynn farm southwest of Talleyrand in Keokuk County. The hogs were found on a nearby Dublin-area farm after an alert neighbor reported suspicious activity at 2:30 a.m. The suspects, Daniel Lee Peiffer and Frederick Peiffer of rural Wellman and Keota, waived preliminary hearing. Local authorities urged residents to report suspicious activity as livestock thefts have risen.
