Washington County corn yield sets county record in 1965
County Extension Director Jim Frier reports Washington County’s estimated 1965 average corn yield reached a new high of 97 bushels per acre, with state average 82. The county ranked seventh in Iowa. Cedar, Clinton, Scott, Des Moines, and Henry counties posted higher yields. Favorable weather and improved farming practices drove the gain, though 1966 planting was late and yields may fall to 75 85 unless early frost arrives.
