Dogs kill girl maul her playmate near Washington
A large search resumed at dawn for the last of three Great Danes after a girl was mauled and another boy injured in savage attacks near Washington. Two dogs were captured late Wednesday near the scene in Prince Georges County Maryland, with Sharon Sparks and James Barney the victims, the latter in poor condition but expected to recover.

Rath to reopen Columbus Junction pork plant in August
The Rath Packing Company will resume operations at its Columbus Junction Iowa plant on August 15 after a temporary May 2 suspension due to hog shortages and weak demand.
