Miss Washington County 1971 Crowned Linda Wertz in Pageant

Linda Wertz won the Miss Washington County 1971 title at the Washington County Fair pageant in a field of ten. She is a University of Iowa student, daughter of Robert Wertz, and a Washington High School and Ellsworth Junior College alumna. The event featured Diane Marie Moore as first runner up and listed finalists Kathryn Engle, Marjorie Wagner, and Jill Morgan, with Cathy Wheeler, Gary Goodell, and the Chevaliers performing.

Crash injures two as car crosses center line on Highway 1

A pickup and station wagon crash near Bush corner on Highway 1 in Washington Tuesday afternoon injuring two men. Chris Coblentz drove north crossing the center line, colliding with a semi trailer and a following pickup driven by Leslie Altenhofen. Hesseltine swerved to avoid the wreckage. none of the other two vehicles suffered heavy damage.

Hamlet Rehearsals Continue At Washington High

Rehearsals for William Shakespeare's Hamlet are under way and the play will be staged August 19 and 20 at 8 p.m. at Washington High School. A group of high school and college students drive the effort to spark community interest in summer theatre. Ticket proceeds support a summer theatre fund for future years. information will be announced soon.

Schwengel to Visit Washington County in August

Congressman Schwengel plans a First District tour during the summer recess visiting Washington County on Thursday August 12. He will meet the Farm Bureau Women at 9 00 a flag over the Capitol, then with the Washington County Developmental Center Board at 10 00 to discuss programs and tour facilities. He will lunch with the Rotary Club and plans to spend time in each county after mid August with wife Ethel joining after August 15.
