Washington County Fair closes with horse show and pageant
Large crowds attended Washington County Fair events with 3500 at the beauty pageant and over 4000 on grounds Monday for tractor pulls. Tonight features the annual horse show at 6 30 p m an open class hog show at 8 p m and a 9 p m dance by The Echo Five. Admission is free for grounds but tickets required for the dance and horse show. Kid's Day priced rides at 25 cents. livestock judging completed with auctions this morning and results update. A purse theft reported a Waterloo woman had heart medicine stolen last Wednesday and a $20 reward offered for return. City council approved an engineering plan with H R Green Co for water and sewer projects including a new water tower near Green Field. Traffic signals installed at East Main Street and North Second Ave with more intersections to be wired and planned. Grand and breed champions announced in the ramblers Riverside club judging with multiple weights and gains listed. Continued on page.

Franzenburg seeks Iowa governor nomination at Marshalltown
Ames Democrat and former state treasurer Paul Franzenburg announced plans to seek the 1972 Democratic nomination for governor. He previously ran against Gov Robert D. Ray in 1968 and served as treasurer from 1964 to 1968 under Gov Harold Hughes. Franzenburg, a native of Connecticut, spoke at a Swanis Club meeting in Marshalltown.
