Cedar Rapids fair officials announce a dynamo meter will test horse pulling strength in three weight divisions during the All Iowa fair at Hawkeye Downs August 12 to 17. The event includes the draft horse show with the horse pulling contest on Monday August 14. Entries indicate large cattle shows, with dairy and beef classes scheduled across August 14 to 16.
To make toasty franks, spread prepared mustard on bread slices, roll frankfurters in the slices, and secure with tooth picks. Butter the outside, then bake to toast the bread and thoroughly heat the franks.
In Riverside a double wedding on July 18 joined Norma Rose Stransky and Donald Kiefer, and Mary Anne Sladek with Richard Kiefer. Parlors included Rev. Omar H Kiefer, nuptial music by Mary Lois Yeegy, and 5090 guests. Attendants were Maxine Kiefer and Charlene Sladek. best men Paul Simon and Paul Sladek. ushers Ardell Kiefer and Melvin Metz. Reception followed at St Marys hall. The couples will reside in Iowa City with their spouses.
Children of Vew Ett club members were entertained at Sunset Park on Wednesday afternoon. Games and treats were provided for the kids. No club meetings are scheduled until September.
Birthday honorees at Theodore Meyer home were Fred Donaldson born July 31 and his daughter Marie Wulf born August 1. A picnic supper was cooked in the back lawn fireplace and gifts were given by guests. Attendees included the Donaldsons, Wulfs, and Meyer family plus friends.
Eleven members answered roll call noting their first attended Sunshine Community club meeting. Mrs. Lyle Romine hosted with four guests including Mrs. Malcomb Montgomery and Mrs. Henry Sutherland. A luncheon committee was formed for a 1 o'clock event at Mrs. John McConnahay. The annual picnic is planned for the Iowa City park.
Snowball Social Club enjoyed entertainment with 18 members and six guests. They toured the Iowa Continental Telephone Company and the American Pearl Button Company. Mrs. Lloyd Enke hosted. Miss Gamon and Miss Cave demonstrated sewing. President Mrs. Wayne Knupp led. Next meeting planned for September 18 with Mrs. Tyan Haha.
Brazen club met at Mrs Lyle Taisley home on Wednesday afternoon with Miss Pentecost of Fairfield and Mrs Rodgers of Windfield as guests. Hints on canning and pickle making guided roll call. large rose placed as a favor at the refreshment table. next meeting to be with Mrs Cleo McCoy.
