Allocation of surplus army trucks to 20 Iowa counties includes 70 one and a half ton cargo trucks five stage and platform trucks and other types. Dealers will be notified of sale details and farmers must obtain a certificate of need from their AAA committee due to truck shortages.
Thirteen month-old Michael Clark of Cedar Rapids fell from a second story window while in his crib. He was rushed to a hospital and recovered consciousness quickly with no concussion or broken bones, according to Dr. D S Challed.
North Liberty farmer Howard Sentman, 32, was struck by lightning Wednesday morning two miles west of town as he sifted sand under a tree. He died at the scene. Survived by his wife and three children.
James F. Williams, 61, of Cedar Rapids, a laborer with 13 divorces, asks Linn County district court to marry again after stipulating no remarriage for a year following his last divorce on June 12. He has wed and divorced one wife four times and another twice, with his longest marriage lasting 24 years.
In Emmetsburg, seven month old Caroline Rohrer was baptized at 11:30 a.m. Sunday by Rev. George A. Ingle in the Emmetsburg Congregational church. At the same moment, her father Harold Rohrer, aboard an aircraft carrier in the Pacific, was baptized by a chaplain. The Rohrer family formerly lived at Fort Dodge.
Des Moines reports that A. J. Mickey Williams received final release from parole and restoration of civil rights following the recommendation of Black Hawk County Sheriff after a 14 year old gun battle. Williams had been paroled from Fort Madison last year on a three year sentence for attempted murder. Sheriff Wagner of Waterloo wrote the governor noting Williams has reestablished himself since his release.

He is survived by his wife Carrie, his mother, and one brother Nelson Ramsey. funeral arrangements are with Shermans.
Yesterday in Washington the high reached 95 degrees, five degrees below the prior day, with high humidity making the heat feel extreme in the afternoon and evening. A cooler morning followed with a trace of rain starting about five o'clock and falling lightly for a short period.

United States reports a massive pre-dawn raid on Honshu targets including Hachioji Toyama Nagaoka Mito and Kawasaki oil installations near Tokyo. Twenty Super Fortresses dropped 6 632 tons of bombs with 778 bombers and 42 fortresses laying mines, one fortress lost. Returns claim good to excellent results and forewarned targets.
