Wells and Dawson named Washington County magistrates
Avis S. Wells of Washington and Bernard C. Dawson of Wellman were appointed two year judicial magistrates in Washington County starting July 1. Wells, 28, becomes the first woman magistrate since the 1973 minor court system began. Dawson, 52, was reappointed. The pair were chosen from nine applicants for the part time posts paying about 5300 yearly. Wells replaces Robert C. Hammer who withdrew. she is deputy county clerk of court and has 20 years in the clerk's office. Commission members were Judge Ira Morrison Nels Westermark Richard Stewart Wendell Phillips Albion Young and Lee Schafer.

County Tax Delinquencies Rise Due to Fiscal Year Change
