Winnebago planting project underway in Thompson Iowa
A large tree and shrub planting effort will cover Winnebago County. About 70,000 plants, 500 volunteers and conservationists participate to provide wildlife cover. The project costs 20,000 dollars with land donated by about 80 farmers and less than 10 acres of cropland taken out of production. Six workers will plant through June 30 in hillsides ponds parks and railroad-edge areas.

Make the Scene Green plans set for May 18 event
Final plans were made for this year's Make The Scene Green public service project by Iowa National Guard units including Washington's 134th Ambulance Company. The event at Izaak Walton League Camp seven miles south of Washington on Highway 1 will mobilize about 100 volunteers to build hiking trails wildlife preserves paint and repair facilities and construct picnic areas with meals provided and fuel for equipment funded.
