Edward and Ashton of Davenport learned at the University of Iowa hospital that he is father of a single child after a telegram announced the birth of a son. A second telegram meant for another man reported a daughter born to Mrs. Ashton on April 19, causing the mix up.

A receiver operates the Clin ton brewery and the firm is said to be profitable as a hearing before Special Master Walter A. Newport orders refunds to stock purchasers.
Federal Judge R J Gibson issued a temporary restraining order halting government prosecution of the Aluminum Company of America in a monopoly case tied to Melone controlled interests. The move postpones action in a multi year series of suits against the company and its affiliates.
Miss Alice Cunningham died unexpectedly between ten and eleven this morning at her parents home on South Iowa avenue. The oldest daughter of Mr and Mrs John Cunningham she is survived by her parents and three sisters Virginia Ruth and Betty. The body was taken to J A Jones funeral home as plans for services were being made.
On April 29 an owner of Sam Len's Chinese laundry in Des Moines was struck by a brick hurled through a window as police investigated a wave of vandalism tied to union sympathy. Authorities believed sympathetic protesters targeted the business after strikes by nine laundries.
Elmhurst College professor Herman Sander and freshman Dorothy Braun will speak at St Pauls Evangelical Church in Washington next Sunday for the pre dedication of the remodeled building. Sander will lead a youth panel on Youth Facing a World of Confusion with Leroy Setziel and George Kalbfleisch joining the discussion. The schedule lists music, a college entry talk by Dean Lonzo Jones, and sessions in medicine, agriculture, art, journalism, home economics, manufacturing, public service, education, engineering, retailing, and music.
The Parent-Teachers association and the school promote diphtheria prevention for children six months to six years. Diphtheria is preventable by toxoidone treatment costing one dollar, with free care for those unable to pay. Children may receive treatment at the family physician’s office on May 4 6 or 7 between 2 and 5 PM. Washington physicians support the effort.

Lewis Christian Brinning 77 died yesterday afternoon at 3 30 at the Arthur Duensing home three and a half miles northwest of town after months of declining health. Funeral at United Presbyterian church Friday at two. Burial in Elm Grove. Sherman's funeral home in charge. Survived by his brother H H Brinning and half brother Charles Brining both of Washington. several siblings predeceased him.
