In Rockwell City a column notes the women's reformatory sold a carload of hogs for 100. The hogs averaged 311 pounds and went to Carl Balt send who shipped them to the Bath Packing Co. at Water Joo.
Davenport Police Chief Sam Kelly suspended three patrolmen for two days for sleeping on duty. Officers William Waack Harold Stanton and Jack Kinney assigned to ambulance and patrol wagon duty were found asleep in the yard barn.
Guttenberg led with thirty one percent attendance at the closing session of the eleventh Iowa Rotary district convention in Cedar Rapids Guttenberg members topped attendance. William Brandon of Davenport was elected district governor while Clinton and Clear Lake tied for club membership growth.
KEOKUK Dr J H Krichel was elected president of the Southeastern Town Veterinary Medical association at a Mount Pleasant meeting. Dr J M Wilson of Winfield was named vice president and Dr Tom J McCabe of Mount Pleasant becomes secretary.
An eight pound daughter born to Mr and Mrs William P Leonard in Solon carries the distinction of having four living great grandparents and four grandparents. The great grandparents are Mr and Mrs J W Cerny of Solon and Mr and Mrs G H Miller of Morse, while the grandparents are Mr and Mrs J M Leonard of Iowa City and Mr and Mrs J F Cerny of Solon.
Labor strife at Muscatine factory escalates into a battle between the Committee for Industrial Organization and the American Federation of Labor for collective bargaining rights. Henry Orren, owner, says he signed an agreement with the United Garment Workers, AFL affiliate.
Dale Everson a Griswold farmer was fined five dollars by a justice of the peace for a minor traffic offense. He appealed to district court where Judge Grover Brown of Shenandoah fined him fifteen dollars for the same offense and costs brought the total to seventy three dollars and sixty cents. Everson is appealing to the Iowa supreme court.
In Ottumwa a contest board review shows mayoral candidates Manning and Hill tied in precincts audited by attorneys. Manning 6,518 votes, Hill 6,519 votes with Manning contesting Hull’s election by a single vote. A ruling on disputed ballots is expected.
Ames reports that Iowa State College will raise fees to offset a revenue drop with an expected 10 percent enrollment rise. The division of agriculture to charge an extra $6 per quarter, agricultural engineering $3, and the agricultural traveling course $3. Officials estimate net quarterly increases of about $7,200 and yearly total around $25,000.

Homer Fichtner of Brighton died at 8 30 last night at his sister Mrs Dave Wentworths home from influenza and complications. He was born October 21 1882 in Walnut township and lived in the Brighton area his entire life. Funeral will be Friday at 2 30 in the Wentworth home with Rev Leitzinger of the Germanville Lutheran Church officiating. Burial is in Hillcrest cemetery.
