Ex-Gov George Wallace of Alabama heads for Cleveland on a northern trip to test presidential viability. He signals a possible run while denying racism, addressing civil rights and Vietnam policies amid protests by civil rights demonstrators and cheers from business groups.
Athens denies reports that Communist leader Manlis Glezos was to be executed by the new military government. A government spokesman called the claim an absurd lie and said 5,000 alleged Communists are in custody with no kangaroo courts. Glezos, 45, famed for wartime acts, faces trial under post coup tribunals.

U.S. commanders estimate five North Vietnamese divisions massed above the DMZ, while reinforcements struggle for helicopters amid air strikes and B52 bombardment.

The Washington Junior High music department presents its annual combined spring concert on Monday May 1 at 7 30 in the junior high gymnasium with no admission fee. Vocal groups Chorus B and Chorus A feature seventh to ninth graders and a total of 133 vocal students will perform along with a boys group and a girls triple trio. The two concert bands directed by Ronald Wise open with the B Band of mostly seventh graders and 58 members, followed by the A Band of eighth and ninth graders with 72 members concluding the program.

Naples Florida. Dr. Carl Cappolino, a retired anesthesiologist, convicted of second degree murder in the 1965 death of his wife Carmela. An all male jury sentenced him to life in Raeford Prison, while defense seeks appeal. The case followed a prior acquittal in a separate charge.
Three men ambushed an armored car at Turnpike Drive-In Theater in Miami taking more than 185000 dollars. A deputy sheriff, Robert Earl Walker, 37, was arrested after gunfire erupted. one bandit killed and another wounded fled into palmetto scrub as helicopters and dogs pursued. All money recovered.
More than 1,000 Madrid University students shouted anti American slogans and burned six U S flags on campus after about 3,000 gathered for an illegal Vietnam teach in at the faculty of economics and political sciences. Police sealed campus crowds, keeping traffic blocked as protesters chanted Johnson Nazi.
