Iowa Senate reapportionment subcommittee backed a plan to create 61 seats in 49 districts while keeping the 124-member House. The measure passed 3-1 along party lines, with Democrats Denman Kibbie Ely voting yes and Republican Shaff opposing. Lisle did not vote.

Art exhibit opens at library here
The annual Washington County Art Exhibit opened Monday at the Washington Public Library sponsored by Fortnightly Applied Arts. Two Boys Found Dead in Abandoned Icebox

U S May Evacuate As Dominican Revolt Unfolds
A Navy squadron led by the helicopter carrier Boxer stands off Santo Domingo coast to rescue U S citizens if threatened by the Dominican military revolt. The State Department will decide in the morning on evacuations, with up to 800 of 2,300 Americans possibly leaving if facilities are provided. At least 20 people killed and over 60 wounded in Monday fighting including an air attack on the Dominican white house. Marines not planned to land. helicopters could evacuate residents if needed.

Lightning strikes Al Chebuhar residence TV damaged
Lightning damaged a television set at the Al Chebuhar home at 326 East Jefferson shortly after noon today. The Chebuhars saw a bright flash and heard a loud noise as the lightning headed down the ground wire to the television, but apparently caused little other damage.
