Carol Vinton of Eldora Hardin county and Lester L h ms of Eldridge Scott county were chosen as outstanding 4 H club girl and boy of Iowa to attend the national club camp in Washington D C in June.
Dr. Victor R. Pearson of Augustana College Rock Island Illinois told the state Luther league rally at Stanton that divorces were less frequent in homes of churchgoers.
Babe the macaque at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls munched bananas as a special treat for the birth of her third baby. Caretaker Bob Billings said Babe and the sire Jocko have not yet chosen a name for the offspring.

Dr. Charles Henry Stange, 56, dean of the division of veterinary medicine at Iowa State College, died suddenly of a heart attack at his Ames home. Physicians and firefighters attempted revival with a pulmotor but he did not regain consciousness. He had just returned from a trip to Wisconsin and was joking with his daughter Elizabeth when he collapsed while digging dandelions.
Clarion reports B F Henely died at his home after rescuing his wife from a bed fire caused by a dropped live match. Mrs Henely was burned lightly. Henely woke at about 4 a m lit a match and went downstairs. He carried the burning bedclothes outside to save the house.
University of Iowa figures show 100 married couples among students and staff. Both partners attend or one spouse attends classes, with many couples sharing enrollment while others have only the husband registered.
Eight month old Mehmken, son of Mr and Mrs Mark Mehm ken Sperry, swallowed a brooch at home and was taken to Burlington hospital for observation. X rays indicated the pin remained in the intestines but the physician expected it to pass without obstruction.
State health officials report high fluoride in Ankeny water has caused mottled teeth in nearly every local child born in recent years. Other Iowa towns show similar damage to permanent teeth with chalky white or yellow stains, though fluoride can be removed only at high cost.
Mrs Winnie Knebel Freund 46 of Riverside died Saturday night in Washington county hospital after complications from childbirth. Funeral Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic church Richmond. Finalists in the Y M C A preliminary contest compete for 80 dollars in prize money with three prizes per group. The event begins Wednesday at 7 30 pm with admission ten to fifteen cents.

Des Moines April 27 Henry A Wallace secretary of agriculture and head of Roosevelt farm program announced he became a democrat. His wife Mrs Wallace also changed from republican to democrat by filing with the county auditor. His affiliation dated March 31 follows a family Republican legacy including his father who also served as a republican secretary of agriculture.
Citizens lament Ankeny officials have not supported extending Des Moines water to the county farm, a move seen as preventing future Ankeny babies from trouble.

Occupants of cars driven by John Mangold and Mrs Fay Rowe of Wellman escaped serious injury Saturday evening when the cars collided for miles west of town on primary road No 2. Mangold had passenger H L Norton and Rowe was with five children Elden Keith Mildred William and Glenn. Some occupants were bruised and cut. both cars were badly damaged.
J M Grimes republican candidate for governor will discuss the homestead exemption bill Tuesday evening at City Hall. Sponsors announced the meeting with Grimes noted as a Osceola newspaper publisher and a leading June primary contender.
Firefighters were summoned to the C. W. Walker residence on East Sixth Street yesterday around 6 pm to extinguish a roof blaze. The flames were controlled with little damage and did not spread beyond the roof. the house owner is Mrs. L. Yancey and insurance covers the minor roofing damage.
A Dow City Iowa fire destroyed more than 7000 dollars worth of gas and oil at the Klotter oil station. Firefighters from Dow City Dunlap and Denison tackled the blaze and kept nearby buildings from damage. The flames rose over 100 feet as two tanks of gas and kerosene along with oil exploded.

Washington April 27 Drastic revision of the administration tax program appeared likely as foes broadened their attack and a Democratic split was threatened in the senate. The drive centered on abandoning current corporation taxes in favor of using undistributed earnings as the tax yardstick. Congress adjourned but conferences forecast intensive efforts to alter the bill next week.
William Hayes aged 74 died Sunday morning at the county home after a long illness. Born in 1862 in this community he had lived his whole life here and was the last surviving member of his father’s family. Funeral services are planned for two o clock Tuesday afternoon at L A Jones funeral home.
The coroner's jury found the fatal shooting of Albert E. Schaeffer justifiable under the circumstances. Mrs. Ellen Krause exonerated. evidence showed Schaeffer, intoxicated, tried to enter the Krause home and she fired to protect her family. The man died at the hospital from internal hemorrhage after a bullet pierced a major vessel.
The jury determines Albert Schaeffer died from blood loss due to a pistol shot fired by Mrs. Ellen Krause. They rule the shooting was not felonious but justified under the circumstances.
