Easter morning and evening services at Trinity Chapel were led by Rev Parkinson with palms and seasonal decor enhancing the church. The choir delivered special music and Mrs Norton’s solo drew praise as the community noted the well presented service.
A. N. Alberson is asked to fill the vacancy in the state Masonic Custodian of Properties office created by Father Theodore Schreiner’s death at Mt. Pleasant. Alberson, Past Grand High Priest, has not decided on accepting. The offer comes from Grand Lodge, Grand Chapter, and Grand Commander. Keota, Iowa April 26. John P. B. Lacey recommended Newton for postmaster of Keota. Newton is seen as qualified and acceptable. This is the first Sixth District action on the postmaster question.
Decoration Day will be observed in this city on Saturday with the committee arranging the program. Memorial Day services will be held by churches on Sunday. The Fourth of July is expected to be celebrated on Saturday as well, with some residents likely observing both Saturday and Monday.
At 845 o clock this morning funeral services for Mrs Maynard were conducted by Rev Washburn and Rev Stark. Friends gathered at the residence then followed the remains to Rock Island station for interment at Elm Grove cemetery Mt Pleasant. Wm Bongert suffered a left arm fracture and shoulder bruises from a roof fall yesterday. He remains unable to work but is progressing.

A sample of hard cider seized at John Zeigler's restaurant was sent to Fairfield for testing by an expert chemist this morning. The alcohol content will influence the case presented in court. Curt Wells shipped fine horses to Pennsylvania and Martin Stewart sent two hog loads over the Narrow Gauge.
The city council approved a street adjustment on East Washington Street with property owners agreeing. The new walk will line the parade route near several properties and extend a lawn for A. T. Patterson. Bench marks were taken by Surveyor Kyle and grading began, altering the street’s appearance while a nearby corner links to the old rink.
The forecast for Iowa calls for generally fair conditions tonight with warmer readings in the east and central portions. Wednesday will be partly cloudy and possibly unsettled with cooler conditions in the western portion.
A letter reply to a New Jersey minister touts Postum Cereal Food Coffee as a grain based health drink that imitates the taste and aroma of Mocha. It claims to relieve stomach bowel and liver troubles while displacing real coffee and notes physician endorsement and nationwide distribution from Battle Creek Michigan. It warns against imitations sold as better substitutes.
Mr. BE Brown of Washington has been secured by Sheriff Teeter to investigate the mysterious Prank Trachopsky case. Brown believes the man is dead and was killed for his money. He asks for any information from the public and promises a thorough investigation.
A 1897 proclamation by Mayor Geo KY Ross of Washington declares alleys must be free of offensive matter and private use forbidden on public grounds. It requires removal of decaying material to a city dump, installing manure boxes for horses or cows, and safe bonfire practices with an April 27 1897 start date.
