Presbyterian Home Missionary Society Meets at Parsonage
A called meeting of the Presbyterian Home Missionary Society will be held at the parsonage tomorrow at 2 30 PM. A report from the Presbyterian meeting will be given and all interested are urged to attend. The washout near Valley Junction to Des Moines is cleared for business and trains are returning to normal. Three quarters of a mile of track between Eddyville and Ottumwa was washed out but repair is expected soon as the river falls today.

Mrs Maynard Dead and Burglary Suspect Publicized
Mrs Hannah Margaret Maynard died at home in Southwest Washington after a long illness. She was 57, born in Henry county near Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and lived in Des Moines most of her life. She leaves two children, Ed in Colorado and Luella Buxbaum in Des Moines. Funeral services are set for tomorrow at 315 in Des Moines with Rev. Washburn and Rev. Stark. Burial will be in Elm Grove cemetery at Mt. Pleasant. East Main street burglar catcher story follows as a youth questioned after an incident. mayor may appoint him Chief of Police.

Stranger Seeks Work Hospitality Then Steals $1.50
A tall stranger called at Martin Swift Sr. home near the city seeking work. He stayed overnight after being invited in but left with $1.50 taken from the hired man's clothing. Sheriff Teeter was notified and may detain the suspect in the county jail if he is found nearby.

Aurora Society program to open newly furnished hall

Mrs Darbyshire Injured After Hen Coop Fall
Mrs Darbyshire wife of Rev Darbyshire of Main Creek sustained serious injuries Friday when a fall while tending a hen coop dislocated her right shoulder. An elderly woman past seventy, she received prompt medical attention with two doctors from the city visiting on Saturday as efforts continue to restore the use of her arm.

Lightning Burns Straw Stack North of City Killing Hogs
Early Saturday morning a lightning strike hit a large straw stack at Lorien Neal home one and a half miles north of the city and burned it down. The bolt also killed two hogs belonging to Mr Neal.

Hites Ship Out Dozen Fine Horses To Eastern Markets
Jake Hite sent three and four carloads of horses eastward this week totaling eighty head with forty one head today. Several broke under three minutes with one or two at 2 28. A notable team of browns five years old full brothers sired by Old Joe Wagner drew praise. Rob McCall accompanied the shipment to Chicago.

Floods across Chicagua floodplain wash out grounds
Walter Haight reports floods running over picnic grounds and three to four miles of banks of the Chicagua. The mill sustains heavy damage from the high water and the home of W. T. H. Van Trump is inundated forcing him to leave. A large crowd watched torrents along the bank as water surged through the area.

Hard cider raid targets Zeigler restaurant in Washington
Constable Scott obtained a search warrant and seized two barrels of hard cider and one of cream of hops from John Zeigler's North Iowa Street restaurant next to the Civic Hotel. The drive follows a movement to end hard cider sales amid debates on its drinkability and impact. A drunk was fined ten dollars with costs after appearing before Justices Rogers, while the officer reportedly bore a corn-ear injury from the arrest.
