Fire siren calls for minor brush fires
Fire officials responded to two minor brush fires. On Wednesday at 5 PM a garbage fire at 315 East 3rd spread to dry brush behind a vacant house, quickly contained. This morning at 9 AM a fire at 602 North 2nd near the Zieglowsky home spread to nearby brush and scorched a utility rear area, with no damage reported. Both blazes were extinguished promptly.

Considerable Loss In Fire On Bud Horras Farm
Fire at the Bud Horras farm two miles southwest of the Clear Creek Church in Keota County caused extensive damage at 3 15 a m. Keota Richland and Sigourney fire crews battled the blaze discovered by Mrs Horras. Two large double corn cribs were destroyed along with seven brood sows and litters. About 4000 bushels of grain and related equipment perished. Firemen saved a barn a summer kitchen and a small hog shed. Cause undetermined. Estimated damage about 25000 dollars.
