Miller. Burial East Union Cemetery. Born November 29, 1879, daughter of Yost and Marriam Wertz Yoder. Survived by two daughters Lisle Hering and Ernest Yoder, a son Eldon, and a sister Ida Hershberger.

VA Hospital Honors Volunteer Workers
The Veterans Administration Hospital in Town City held ceremonies honoring volunteers from Washington County. U S Opens Nuclear Test Series With Atmospheric Explosive
The United States begins its eighth Pacific test series with the Dominic shot over Christmas Island at 10 45 a m EST. The AEC says the intermediate yield device was air dropped and will last at least two months with about two dozen explosions planned near Christmas Island and Johnston Isle. Fallout is expected to be minimal compared with Soviet tests of 1961 and natural radiation levels. Clarence M Herr of Kinross died at 80 in Washington after four months there with services set for Kinross Christian Church April 27. Burial at English River Cemetery. The Iowa Commerce Commission granted Natural Gas Storage Co. of Illinois a permit to create a $10 million underground gas storage field in Louisa County Iowa named Cairo Field. The 9004 acre site will include pipelines and cost about $3 million initially, rising to $7 to $10 million at full capacity in 7 to 8 years. Gas will be stored in summer and drawn during peak use with some supply available by winter 1963 64.

Hog Cholera Outbreak Reported Near Kalona
The first hog cholera outbreak in Washington County since the quarantine law took effect near Kalona prompts a 21 day quarantine after the last sick hog disposal. No hogs under 160 pounds allowed under permit except for immediate slaughter with prior packing-plant arrangements under Federal supervision. Vaccination urged for all unvaccinated hogs. surveys show under half of Iowa swine are vaccinated. Washington County farmers are advised to vaccinate, avoid infected herds, ensure replacements are vaccinated, and isolate new stock 10 to 30 days. Tuberculin testing increasingly used for tuberculosis screening in communities, especially among youth.
