Three people died in Iowa traffic accidents over Easter weekend raising the 1962 toll to 116. A hit-run driver remained unfound after striking 3 year old Donald Kevin Levins as he crossed a Burlington street near the airport. Victims Friday night included Florence Sussex and Jim Jefferies with multiple injuries and hospitalizations in Clinton and nearby towns.

Two Escape Injury In Single Car Accident
Two occupants escaped injury when a 1955 model car driven by Duane Allen Bower of Washington skidded on a gravel road and rolled into a ditch two miles southwest of Washington near the Chuck Horse farm. Bower and passenger Boyd Gardner were uninjured. charges of failure to have his vehicle under control were filed against Bower.

Martha Brindley Darbyshire 73 died Saturday at a daughter’s home in Playa Del Rey California after four months of illness. Her body will be brought to Washington for funeral arrangements by Jones Funeral Home with burial at Elm Grove Cemetery. Born Martha Louise Brindley on March 29 1889 she was a Washington native educated in local schools St Kathryn’s Davenport Southern Female College LaGrange and Downer College Milwaukee. She married Homer Darbyshire in 1913 and was a feature writer for magazines including Better Homes Gardens and American Home. Survivors: daughters Frances DeSimone Santa Monica Isabel Montgomery Playa Del Rey and Martha Darbyshire Santa Monica. six grandchildren.

United States plans Polaris tests with live warhead in Pacific
