Tattooed names and a marriage proposal shock Cambridge woman

Brinton Trust Funds Aid Washington Health and YMCA

Nixon calls for tax change to aid poor and curb inflation

President Nixon asked Congress to reduce the tax burden on the very poor, impose a minimum tax on the very rich, and cut the 10 percent surcharge for middle incomes by half starting January 1. He urged repeal of the 7 percent investment tax credit to curb inflation, proposing a low income allowance to remove over 2 million low income families from the tax rolls and noting some high earners pay no tax due to loopholes. He suggested extending the surcharge until January 1, 1970, while planning to reduce it to 5 percent, with potential elimination of the surtax if conditions permit.

Local groups to benefit from Carrie Davis will

Carrie Davis will provides bequests to the United Presbyterian church Washington YMCA and YWCA Washington Public Library and others. The 320 acre home farm is to be sold with net proceeds shared among eight shares to ecumenical missions two to the YWCA two to the American Bible Society two to the University of Iowa Foundation and other church and civic groups. Several Iowa and Wisconsin churches receive shares and funds for medical research and youth homes. Iowa Weather Fair Tonight and Tuesday

The forecast for Iowa calls for fair skies tonight and Tuesday with cooler conditions tonight. Lows range from the mid 30s in the north to the low 40s in the south, and Tuesday will bring a slight warmup with highs from the 60s in the northeast to the low 70s in the southwest. Pentagon forms 23-ship task force for Sea of Japan operations

The Pentagon announced a 23-ship Task Force 71 to guard U S reconnaissance flights in the Sea of Japan after a US aircraft was shot down by North Korea. The force includes four aircraft carriers and 16 destroyers with cruisers Chicago Oklahoma City and St Paul.
