In Sioux City William Fel ton Jr. won the Izaak Walton league championship at the group monthly dinner by eating 47 smelt. Runner up W W Trusell, a game warden, disposed of 42 fish in second place.
Cedar Rapids reports Gaylord Forsyth a 30 year old farmhand near Fon da was cleared by a federal grand jury after being accused of writing a $1000 extortion letter to film star Clark Gable.
Boone County supervisors approved a contract to gravel 54 miles of secondary roads and apply maintenance gravel on 39 miles of the county network, extending efforts to improve road conditions.
Logan. John Nelson, Harrison County road patrolman and deputy sheriff, was discharged by Sheriff C F Cross. Nelson had served over four years and is opposing Cross for the Democratic nomination for sheriff. Cross said Nelson refused to take orders.
In Creston, four year old Donald Earl Wainwright, son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore L. Wainwright, died after an overdose of patented pills found and taken by the child without adult knowledge. The physician cited accidental ingestion as the cause.
Claude A. Bartholow Jr. 29, University of Iowa alumnus class of 1933 and employee of the Rock Island district of the U S engineers, drowned in the Mississippi at Quincy Illinois when a boat capsized. Three other men were rescued.

In Boone Iowa on April 21 residents fled the street in night clothes as a fire damaged stock and furnishings of the O'Dell automobile supplies store. The loss was about 500 dollars and the cause of the fire was not determined.
W. P. Adams, a Sac County landowner, left an estate taxable at 480,766.62 with a state inheritance tax of 30,174.21. Adams ran a large 6,009 acre Iowa farm for many years.
