Chas Reeves leaves for Hedrick to begin a two day consignment sale of fast horses. Buyers from across the country will offer horses with recorded times of 2:12 2:18 and 2:20. Reeves is noted as a rising auctioneer with statewide use and esteem.
A severe squall warning swept through local neighborhoods yesterday as fast moving storms brought sudden gusts and heavy rain. Residents reported damaged fencing and halted power lines while emergency crews assessed scattered debris and potential hazards.
Reports from West Chester Richmond Oskaloosa Lettsville Crawfordsville and Washington describe heavy rain hail storms. Observers note shattered windows at Lettsville schools and churches while a peculiar cloud near Wes Smith farm produced ground impact and soil scooping. Local resident James Zenck reports heavy rain and hail six miles north of Washington.

A local lodging house run by Mr. Benz faced trouble when a man and a woman checked in with two other men. The visitors paid briefly, then left, leaving the proprietor owed for two weeks. The lady departed with her grip containing nothing valuable, prompting Benz to require advance payment from future guests.
The city council resolves to establish a four foot wide sidewalk on the west side of Green Street between North and Railroad and Thompson streets in Washington Iowa. It shall be built to grade within eighty days or by the Street Commissioner at city expense if delayed, with costs assessed against fronting properties.
The council in regular session granted a poll tax rebate to Scott Kerr who had already paid. Permissions for extended lawns and fewer permits were decided, with some items referred to committees. Wardens for the fire department were elected: C. Fk. Ward, J. Little, HW Johnson, L. R. Davis. Proposals from Washington Illuminating Co for gas lights were referred with authority to act. Latta Alley closure approved and sidewalk charges levied against Mrs. Worthen. New walks planned along Capt. Teller’s residence, John Minnick, and Greene street. Park wells and cisterns to be filled, park fund appropriation sent to public grounds committee. Sewer tap request by J. H. Laughead referred to sewer committee. Council adjourned.

The forecast for Iowa predicts light tonight and Wednesday with warmer conditions on Wednesday. The Gaiety club met at Miss May Latchem’s home with attendees listed. The Daily Journal endorses caution against frauds and highlights Dr Disbrow of Chicago proposing an institute to cure narcotics with letters and reports backing the claim. The Dr will meet locals at J Isenhart’s home and Shiloh’s Cure is advertised by Carris & Co.
