A predawn tornado deadly in southeastern Alabama leaves one dead and three injured, with a second twister near Bainbridge Georgia injuring one. Georgia floods and heavy rain hit Atlanta and Columbus, neighbors reporting 4.25 inches in about an hour as storms sweep the region.
UPI reports B52 bombers conducted their heaviest raids in two weeks, targeting Communist bivouacs along invasion routes to Saigon and Da Nang. Maj. Gen. Ormond R. Simpson says the enemy is fighting a headline war, not a military one, while mission counts reach seven with about 600 tons dropped in two waves.

An 8 percent excise tax on net bank income would yield about 2.2 million dollars yearly for local governments and the state, replacing the current 5 mill taxes on banks and raising the savings and loan MOC millage to 5. The plan, backed by Gov. Ray, aims to boost local revenues by 240 thousand dollars annually plus state funds, with additional budget adjustments to fund universities, Medicaid, and education.
