A gunman led robbers into the Sterling Hotel at 2 40 a m and looted more than 100 000 dollars in guest safety deposit boxes. The raid, one of Miami Beach s boldest, lasted about 30 minutes with 78 boxes breached and no immediate loss figure disclosed.
Representatives from nearly all state agencies and federal offices will meet in Des Moines to create a flood coordinating committee addressing the Mississippi River crisis. Iowa officials report widespread flooding from Minnesota to Missouri with a crest forecast near 27 feet, while towns like Dubuque and Keokuk brace with sandbagging and rail adjustments.
Des Moines legislator Rep. William Reichardt urged the Iowa House to back a resolution for a uniform system to assess and collect personal property taxes. The body sent the measure to the Ways and Means Committee on an 8-28 vote, aiming to value personal property at 60 percent and address perceived inequities in inventories taxed for farmers and merchants.

Two auto accidents in Iowa claimed two lives early today. Ed Battani of Granger died when his car hit a bridge abutment near Beaver Creek and burst into flames. Ben Jameson, 25, of Ames, perished in a two car collision in Ames. The year’s total rises to 169 fatalities, 34 below last year’s on this date.
Conway Bros. first Town Corp. with the Washington State Bank have purchased $110,000 in bonds for the buildings of the new Washington County Jail. The bonds will be off in six payments starting November 1, 1966 and ending November 1, 1971 at an interest cost equivalent to 2.73567 per cent.

Police press on around the clock to solve the Des Moines fatal stabbing of high school junior Janice Snow. An unidentified man recalled sharing coffee with her before her disappearance, and a body found in a southeast Des Moines wooded area was reported around midnight Wednesday. Police questioned youths, a doctor confirmed multiple stab wounds, and investigators seek to map the 50 hour gap from last sighting to discovery.
A mob of about 2,000 university students overwhelmed 300 police in a hand-to-hand battle in a Seoul suburb over relations with Japan. Dozens injured, one officer critically hurt and a second missing. Police used tear gas as reinforcements and troops were dispatched but did not engage directly.

About 150 US planes hit six bridges in North Vietnam in around the clock raids. At least five bridges destroyed, a sixth hidden by a dust cloud. No aircraft lost. Air Force and Navy crews reported damaging targets near Kim Cuoi Trai Hoi Phu Dien Chau Bai Duc Thon Xom Ca Trang and along highway 12 near Laos. Bullsup missiles used on Bai Duc Thon. Skyraiders conducted night strikes with success.
