Jaycee Egg Hunt Planned at Sunset Park Saturday

UPI reports dawn to dusk air raids by U S forces on a Viet Cong forest headquarters 65 miles northwest of Saigon, 1,000 tons of devices dropped over four by two miles, with Marine and Army aircraft in combat for the first time in the south. A second raid targeted North Viet Nam using highways 7 and 8, while Marine troops fought a 12 hour battle at Thua Thien Province. Viet Cong losses included five bodies, with government casualties at 50.

Washington Community school board met Wednesday evening and approved federal funds for Head Start in Washington County. They accepted resignations from several teachers and hired new staff, approved pay scales for support staff, and agreed to buy sewing machines, an automatic calculator, a comptometer, and an IBM Selectric. They applied for National Defense Education Act funds for reading and distributive education and reviewed Town Basic Skills results. Summer school offerings were proposed and the treasurer reported first half taxes of 967,358.10. Textbook committees submitted 11 new titles for the coming school year.

She was sister of late Senator Smith W Brookhart born April 2 1884 Scotland County Missouri daughter of Abram and Cynthia Wildman Brookhart. She married July 29 1908 to James S Quinn and lived on farms in Washington and Louisa Counties. She was a Methodist and had taught school before marriage. Survivors include her husband and many nieces and nephews.

Des Moines teen found slain near wooded area
Des Moines police identified the murdered teen as 17 year old Janice Snow. She was stabbed multiple times and found clothed in a skirt blouse and white coat. Authorities questioned several persons as they investigated the scene near downtown.
