Storms across Iowa produced a Wednesday night tornado event near Woodward damaging a two unit garage at the State Hospital and injuring one staff member. Large hail up to baseball size fell in Ames and Whitten while gusts above 70 mph toppled trees and damaged roofs from Harlan to Waverly. Power outages and flooded streets followed as a violent front moved east with many communities reporting roof failures and downed lines.

Washington Jaycees will stage an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday April 17 at 9 a.m with separate hunting areas and prizes for three age groups. If rain occurs the event moves to the following week. Jaycees meet at Win breakfast at 7 a.m for final plans. Hospital hires new nurse anesthetist to join staff
Washington County Hospital trustees approved Charles D. Loving, 30, of New York, as nurse anesthetist effective July 1 replacing retiring Winifred Kelly. Loving, married with no children, earned an RN from the University of Hawaii and served as Army corpsman. He will use a Burdick heart monitor and joins a medical clinic expansion as the hospital pursues a $1,700 isolette system funded by an Iowa grant.
