Indicted ex-official faces income tax evasion and extortion charges

Adcock, a former Iowa Liquor Control Commission member and 1965 66 National Alcoholic Beverage Control Association president, is indicted on four counts including two extortion charges, income tax evasion, and filing a false federal tax return. The charges stem from alleged improper payments and under reporting of income tied to liquor distribution before 1972. He was released on a $35,000 bond.

Weber Cleared by Jury In Wellman Sex Case
A Washington County District Court jury acquitted Robert E. Weber, 20, of Wellman, on a lascivious acts with a child charge stemming from a January incident. The not guilty verdict came after about an hour of deliberation at 1:50 p.m. Jury members cited lack of evidence beyond a reasonable doubt. Weber had faced up to five years in prison and a $500 fine if convicted.

Fire Destroys Taverns and Bakery in Iowa Falls
A blaze in Iowa Falls gutted Jack's 7 Lounge, The Office tavern, and a local bakery.
