Five Hurt In Same Accident
Two Iowa home guardsmen were killed and five others were injured in a highway crash south of Des Moines on the army post road. The dead were Jack Packard and Robert Gilliland, both privates first class. Injured were Frank Temple Ray Malin William King Carl Buckingham and Joe Del Ponte. Packard appeared to have fallen asleep at the wheel as the pickup overturned on the gravel road. Del Ponte was treated at Broadlawns General Hospital for severe mouth lacerations and missing teeth. All but Del Ponte were taken to Camp Dodge infirmary.

Thatcher's Music Gift to University of Iowa Library
Four volumes and a portfolio of compositions by the late Prof. Carry Thatcher Jr were donated to the University of Iowa library by his father J H Thatcher of Ruthven. Thatcher who died in 1937 at 32 served in the music department from 1929 to his death. The collection includes choral works piano compositions orchestral music and piano accompaniments for poems by Noyes Teasdale de la Mare and others plus a miscellaneous portfolio. His Symphony in F Minor was performed by the university orchestra in May 1936. other works include Sonata in C Major and Nuns of the Perpetual Adoration and an unfinished mass for eight part chorus.
