A Dubuque column notes Klauer Manufacturing Co Sno-Go plant resumed full operation after a brief 50-member walkout protesting continued employment of two non union workers. Workers returned as national union leaders pledged uninterrupted wartime production.
Watcherloo Kenry Goettsch, 65, of Reinbeck, was in serious condition at Allen Memorial hospital after his right arm was caught in a corn crushing machine while working on a nearby farm near Dinsdale.
Francis Johnson, president of the Iowa Barn Bureau federation, asked the Office of Price Administration to extend price control of pork and pork products to retail markets. He said price control on sales over the counter is needed to prevent profiteering but pork rationing is not necessary.
The bodies of Howard Ruggeverg and Robert Ellingsworth, both 23 and 27, workers at the Roerk Island arsenal, were recovered Wednesday afternoon after drowning Tuesday in the Mississippi River. Rescuers guided by Sheriff Walter Bease recovered the first body by William Wallenab and M. A Dungan, and the second by Lloyd Pierce and Erwin Bitlins.
Six University of Iowa students were elected to positions on Union Board in an all campus election. Reeves Hall and Steve O'Brien of Mason City Dick Spencer of Des Moines Dorothy Miller of Cedar Rapids Frances Simonsen of Sioux City and Mary Stephenson of Davenport join the board. The Union Board oversees student social activities for the year.
The Salvation Army advisory board at its yearly meeting awarded a life membership certificate and plaque to Hubert Tinley of Council Bluffs for his service. Tinley has chaired the board for 22 of his 25 years as a member.
Cedar Rapids Linn county officers pursued a hit and run truck driver who sideswiped a car driven by Jacob Clemens 44 of Amana a watch repair man and rolled the car several times a half mile north of Fairfax Both Clemens and his wife were taken to Mercy hospital with injuries she with cuts not serious and he with rib injuries
Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. announced a 15 percent increase in local Iowa rates and intra state long distance calls. The hike becomes effective with the next bill for local service and on Friday for within state long distance calls.

Mrs Tessie Louise Kerr wife of Howard Kerr died at 1029 this morning at her home 304 East Van Buren street after illness and a prior operation in Iowa City Funeral services are set for Saturday at two oclock at the L A Jones funeral home Rev Alfred Trenerry will officiate Burial will be in Elm Grove cemetery She was born January 31 1891 in a farm north of Washington and lived in Washington county most of her life She and Howard Kerr married January 3 1912 and she is survived by her husband three sons Harold Floyd Raymond and Marjorie and one daughter two sisters and three grandchildren

About two hundred women gathered yesterday for the central region meeting of the town synod’s Women's Guild at the Evangelical church of Peace in Rock Island. Principal speakers were Mrs Hugo Schuessler of Evansville Indiana and Mrs Martin Albrecht, wife of a missionary to India. Delegates included Mrs C H Mayer and Mrs Carl Paering from St Pauls Valley along with Washington participants.
