Oakland man dies in hunting accident near Atlantic
The body of Alfred C. Oaken, 59, a Oakland cre a route operator, was found in a ditch nine miles northeast of Atlantic by farmer Bruce Paulsen and brought to a funeral home. A shotgun blast near the base of the sky appears to have killed him instantly. Coroner W. W. Kilts on of Atlantic ruled it an accidental death with no inquest.

Funeral of Alfred R. Smith Set for Friday at Two
Funeral services for Alfred Ray Smith will be held Friday at 2 PM at the L A Jones funeral home followed by burial in Crawfordsville cemetery. He died in his car near Waterloo after drinking poison. a note stated he could not carry on. Born April 19 1884 in Osceola he spent most of his life in Crawfordsville and Washington. He lived in Waterloo for two years and was in real estate there. His wife died last January and several siblings reside in Washington. A fuller life sketch will appear tomorrow.
