Iowa House to debate tax relief bill Friday if budget talks succeed

Washington man charged with heroin delivery in county case

Dean Michael Lintz of Washington will be arraigned in district court Friday on delivery of heroin. Indicted by district attorney Richard Bordwell, Lintz is already jailed on possession with intent to deliver marijuana. The charge alleges delivery of heroin to a county jail inmate earlier this year.

Stern warning on Lockheed bribes

Washington Treasury Secretary William E. Simon warned that Lockheed Aircraft Corp would default on $195 million in federally guaranteed bank loans if it pays any more bribes to foreign officials. He testified to the Senate Banking Committee as it weighs a bill banning American firms from bribing officials abroad and outlined revised loan guarantees that would require explicitly defined rules for improper payments in default.

Carter apologizes for ethnic purity remark in Pennsylvania

United Press International reports in Philadelphia that Ge Carter apologized at a crowded news conference for using the phrase ethnic purity while campaigning. He stressed the right of anyone to move into any neighborhood and urged strict enforcement of affirmative action when federal housing funds are used. Hubert Humphrey accused Ford and Nixon administrations of poor leadership and urged accountability to a 2000 delegates at the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO convention.

Iowa House Advances Electronic Fund Transfer Controls

The Iowa House approved a bill 86 to 5 to set standards for electronic fund transfer systems and require satellite terminals to be shared with other banks, savings and loan associations, and credit unions. Enforcement of the sharing provision could be delayed to March 1, 1977 for security or other reasons. The measure aims to curb market domination by a few institutions and regulate orderly development of electronic terminals.

Protests Grow Over Iowa Unemployment Costs and Rules

Iowa employers increasingly protest unemployment claims as costs to fund the state trust fund rise. In February 12 800 initial claims were decided on 8 800 with over 76 percent protested, spurred by a 1975 law shifting wage credits to subsequent employers and a 12 week requalification rule.
