Private funeral services for Hughes reported in Houston

Mammoth bones found near Spencer Iowa tested by specialists
State Archaeologist Dr. Duane Anderson said bones found during apartment construction near the Spencer Golf and Country Club were turned over to Dr. Holmes Semken at the University of Iowa for testing to identify the animal. Winter wheat in good condition nationwide despite drought
The Agriculture Department reports nationwide winter wheat in good to excellent condition outside drought areas of the southern Great Plains. Mild spring weather has allowed farmers to prepare ahead for corn and other crops. Non irrigated wheat remains poor in the southern Great Plains due to moisture shortages. Wheat growers' spokesmen estimate drought could reduce production by 250 million bushels, but overall harvest should meet domestic and export needs without price pressure.
