Thieves forced the front door of Loehrs Briardale store at Defiance and carried out a safe containing $100 along with crucial files and store accounts and records.
SHENANDOAH The Methodist church in the Creston district completed a Bible reading contest with 8 332 chapters read by church members. Churches in the Creston district competed in the event.
A week old goose eggs by Oliver Musch measured 11.25 inches long and 8.75 inches wide and weighed one pound. In Wapello, Louisa County grand jury condemned the jail here as unfit for habitation due to weather exposure poor repairs and insanitary conditions. the jail has been condemned since 1885.
Mrs. Dionne's babies weighed 13 pounds 6 ounces at birth while Mrs. Henry Linne's child weighed 16 pounds. Dr. F A Barber reported Henry Jr and both parents are doing well, though the Linne family remains astonished.
A state audit shows Mount Pleasant state insane hospital operating costs rose to 339277 dollars for the year ending July 1 1934 from 327115 the previous year. Cost per inmate climbed to 213 55 while average inmate population stayed about 1674. Farm and garden operators earned a profit of 10725 versus 6096 last year.

Des Moines reports the state Democratic convention elected eight delegates to the national convention and named Gov Herring and Rep Hubert Utterback among others. The sixth district chose Herring and Utterback as delegates and Murphy was slated for at large. Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Euer featured among district selections with Birmingham acting as temporary chair.
A jury was impaneled in the district court for Clarence Hotle vs E & Vereival of Cleveland seeking 25000 in damages for injuries from a February 19 1935 collision near West Chester. Attorneys opened the case and jurors were excused until Monday.
Democratic crowd in Des Moines hears Congressman Biermann praise Roosevelt record for avoiding dictatorship and aiding agriculture. He urges Republicans to challenge the record, notes rising farm income and broad recovery benefits, and calls for continued Democratic governance to finish the program.
Miss Anna Mottet a Riverside resident of fifty years died Thursday at Mercy Hospital Iowa City from a heart attack after illness. She was 78 born on a farm southwest of Riverside later moved to Riverside then Iowa City never married survived by sister Mrs Clara Mingo of California and several nieces and nephews. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery. She was a longtime Catholic of St Mary’s parish in Riverside and Iowa City.
Allyne M. Freeman, foreman of Mercer county New Jersey grand jury, asked for a probe into the confession of disbarred Trenton lawyer Paul Wendel alleging that Warden Mark O. Kimberling granted Bruno Hauptmann a stay of execution.
Indiana state treasurer Leo J. Wegman fainted in a hotel lobby during a visit to Washington. Indigestion was blamed for the episode, though his condition was reported not serious. Wegman was accompanied by several Democratic men in the lobby. Mr and Mrs Lloyd Bauer of West Chester plus two daughters were in Washington shopping.
In Trenton on April 3 the Mercer County Grand Jury adjourned without action on the Hauptmann case after probing Paul Wendel’s confession about the Lindbergh baby kidnapping. Col. Mark O. Kimberling prepared for Hauptmann’s scheduled 8 p.m. execution as discussions with Governor Hoffman and state officials continued. An unfrocked minister and Hauptmann advisor hinted Hoffman's possible reprieve while awaiting further developments.
Washington and Muscatine Y's Men presented the charter of the International Association of US Men's Clubs to the new Moline club at a special dinner. Initiation team included Dave Elder Ray Pailgrim Herman Conn Ted Brown and Dr. W D Dwyer. Lewis Warren presented the charter with Dr. Dwyer presiding and Swisher Wilson replying. Next week a charter will go to Springfield Illinois and the following week to Oskaloosa.
