Rex Benz, president of the Oskaloosa Chamber of Commerce, welcomed nearly 1 000 teachers to the forty ninth annual convention of the Southeastern Iowa Teachers Association.
DES MOINES Aliss Beth Larson eleven of Charles City daughter of Erwin Larson has not missed a state Democratic convention in her life. She has attended six conventions in eleven years.
The Barkdoll and Dickens families unite as Dorothy Barkdoll marries Dale Dicken at Central City. Emma Barkdoll wed Gil bert Dicken four years ago, and twin Elma joined Lawrence Dicken two years past, completing the three brothers with three wives.

An unidentified man drove his car into the Mississippi River at Brady Street on Davenport’s main thoroughfare and drowned as four onlookers watched. Police directed rivermen using hooks from a launch to recover the victim’s body from the swift current.
ESTHERVILLE W A Cresap 38 high school principal and dean of Estherville Junior College died after an operation for a bowel obstruction. Cresap played in a faculty versus seniors basketball game Monday evening and fell ill after the contest. He was active in promoting the Eighth district tournament here recently.
Breda F. Van Erdewyk, a savings bank officer, hid $4000 in a waste basket after a morning train delivery. A second employee emptied the basket into a paper burner and set it afire. The money, tightly wrapped and partly burned, was recovered by Van Erdewyk as the federal treasury now may replace it.
Forty thousand of the 75,000 Iowa veterans eligible for bonus payments totaling 41 million dollars have filed at the regional office, manager Gordon Beck said. Many others send applications directly to Washington.
Dr. R A Hender a chiropractor and former football player with the Rock Island Independents recalls teaming with Duke Slater Iowa’s All American tackle. Slater attracted praise in game write ups while Hender often made the tackles after Slater cleared the path.

His $100 a month salary and his role in the central warehouse are noted with objections to the assessment system for losses from pilfering. The commission chairman Bernard Manley explains losses are minimized by prorated charges to accessors, including commissioners, as auditors continuously check warehouse inventories sometimes totaling $1,000,000.
The Washington county band, after two rehearsals, will meet Tuesday at 7 p m in the city hall. Sixty players are already enrolled with 30 added last week and 30 more this week hoped to join, reaching about 100 members for the year. The baritone horn section is full as registration continues and interest grows for next summer’s centennial celebration.

Members totaled 636 with 19 new members this year. The congregation contributed 2528 to mission funds, mainly for Dr A Owens in Egypt.
In Butte Montana authorities pursued William Mahan for the kidnapping of nine year old George Weyerhauser. He was reportedly sighted in the city and a ransom bill was found in a local bank as the manhunt continued.
Mrs Earl Nicola received a telegram about the serious illness of her parents Mr and Mrs EB C Rupp of Rapid City. She left yesterday afternoon to Rapid City to help care for them. Mr and

Mrs W F McNeilly sister of Mrs H J McCreedy of this city died Wednesday in a Cedar Rapids hospital from pneumonia. Private mineral service will be held tomorrow at 1 PM at the Springville home. Mr and Mrs McCready plan to attend.
Cres ton men Ray Emerson and Don Emerson appealed to the Supreme Court from a $5,500 jury damage verdict. Their employees, tearing down a fire damaged building, dropped bricks that caused a roof to collapse on C. N. Crawford, 52, in an adjacent building, who received the damages.
Mrs Rupp lived here for about ten years and is well known in this community.
Bedford Iowa April - Floyd Horton 38 a farmer was found guilty of poisoning his wife Ella Horton in their snowbound home on February 14 15. The jury sentenced him to life in prison not death. Horton’s 196 pound lover Anna Johnston confessed plotting the murder and faces sentencing this afternoon.
A new Y's Men’s club affiliated with the International Y's Men organization was organized in Cedar Rapids last evening, the fifth club organized by the Washington club. Delegates from Waterloo and Des Moines attended a dinner meeting with Cedar Rapids business leaders. The charter presentation is set for April 28.
