New Hampton Iowa farmer Emil Schultz aged 63 suffered a severe knee injury when his right knee cap contacted a circular saw. Doctors fear he may lose his right leg as a consequence of the accident.
Fire damage estimated near 30000 dollars followed two break in attempts at the A. R. Loomis & Sons practice plant in Fort Dodge. The robbers fled. police believe one was injured in an early explosion then.
Two Waterloo guests were treated poorly. Nick Lutgen of Raymond left 30 cases of eggs in his car while he shopped and found the eggs gone upon return. Earl Winters of Albert Lea, Minn., had a box with three shirts vanish while he filled out a change of address card at the post office.
Clarinda Clayton County Attorney Willis Glassgow launches a cleanup campaign against pin and marble machines in town after a young woman complained a machine in the B. W. Freeman case failed to pay off as expected. Freeman was fined $50.
Clarinda inmates at the state hospital for the insane will eat cafeteria style once a new dining hall, approved by the state, is completed. Work will start in a few months, says Dr. Roscoe D. Smith, superintendent.
Mason City $60,000 living death suit filed a week ago tests controversial scientific theories in public similar in spirit to the Tennessee Scopes trial. Plaintiff Nels Quevli, an elderly attorney and author of several radical scientific volumes, sparks debate among biologists and theologians.

Des Moines based Oleg Nelson of Stater, national G A RK commander, age 91, announces a 7000 mile journey from Des Moines to the east coast and back then to the west coast. He says he will visit many of the boys along the way.
Jim Pennel, nearing his 86th birthday, reports three slips during a recent slick spell. He says the falls shook him but he remains steady overall.
Floyd Horton testified again in Bedford Iowa on the murder trial of his wife Mia Rita Horton for poisoning death. He said she died about three hours after taking the lethal dose and that she had spells every fifteen minutes. A witness offered expert timing estimates of death.
The April meeting of the last Chamber of Commerce epee is held this evening at the Congress hotel with dinner at 6 30. Cedar Falls attorney Roger Leavitt will deliver the address. Several important items of business are to be presented for action.
At the annual Presbyterian meeting last night officers were elected for the coming year. The congregation elected a president Co. 8S Lemmon and vice president Fred L. Moore. secretary David Kleese. treasurer Win Graf. financial secretary Ella Gordon. Sunday school superintendent Vernon Wittri. Sunday school secretary Coralle Briley. treasurer Tom Rickey. Trustees elected for terms of various lengths include I. Hlarry Ramseyer James DeWit R. B. Dougherty Fred Neiswanger Lawrence Wilson Wm. Graft and Griffin Humphrey. R. E. Dougherty called the meeting to order after a congregational dinner as reports from pastors and secretaries were read. The financial report showed debts paid including furnace stoker water heater and repairs and benevolences averaging 15.22 per member.
Dr. Clarence Van Epps of the State University of Iowa medical college spoke at the Washington County Medical Society meeting held Tuesday evening at the county hospital purses home. He led a clinic on nervous diseases with three patients. several physicians were present.
Funeral services for Mrs. Charles McLaughlin who died yesterday at Methodist hospital Omaha from a throat infection will be held Friday at 2 30 PM in the Presbyterian church Iowa City. Survivors include her husband Dr Charles W McLaughlin Jr her parents Dean and Mrs Kay two brothers Dr George Marshall Kay and Dr Calvin F Kay. The funeral party arrived in Iowa City today from Omaha. Her life sketch notes birth January 27 1997 in Lawrence Kansas enduring academic honors and teaching posts before marriage in 1932.
Albert Rudick of Keokuk escaped serious harm after his car was struck by the Burlington Zephyr train in Keokuk Iowa. He crawled from the wreckage and was only slightly injured according to train personnel.
About three inches of snow covered the ground this morning after yesterday evening and last night’s storm. The snow is melting slowly with indications the ground will soon be bare again unless another snowfall occurs.
The case of Wood versus Moore ended this afternoon with a verdict for defendant Ralph Moore of Washington. Damages were sought by the executrix of William G Wood's estate after a fatal auto crash nearly a year ago. The plaintiff's side planned to dismiss the action without prejudice pending a ruling on a directed verdict.
A wide storm paralyzed eastern Georgia and eastern South Carolina causing at least 23 deaths and about 200 injuries. Cordele in Georgia bore the worst impact with many dead and injureds, while Crisp county officials warned the toll could rise to 15 to 25.
Voters and party leaders predict the greatest Iowa Democratic convention to date will convene at Shrine Auditorium Des Moines with over 5,000 expected attendees.
