Burlington junior college captured the state junior college debate tournament held in Iowa City. Elkader placed second. Participating schools included Washington Ft. Dodge Mason City Graceland Estherville Sheldon Maquoketa Muscatine Northwestern Orange City Waldorf Centerville William Masson and William Wells led Muscatine in wins but fell to Ft. Dodge and Sheldon. The gold medal went to Burlington for the most winning decisions.

They charged him with liquor violations after finding alcohol and alleged whiskey in his car near his North Marion avenue restaurant. Clarence Aaron Schooley aged 59 died in Washington after illness. His body was brought to Brighton for funeral services and burial to be held today.
