Washburn High School Class to Graduate in May

More than fifty scholars will graduate from Washburn High School this spring with ceremonies set at Walker High School on Friday May 23 and Congregational church on May 27. Rev D W Davis will deliver the baccalaureate at the Methodist church and the program includes piano, salutatory, chorus, and diplomas presented by F T Beers. Dist of graduates lists January and June classes with names such as Hazel Larson Agnes Bodin Florence Belly and Harry Moland among others. The class colors are Old Blue and Silver with motto The door to success is labeled push. A Nelson of Orienta visited the city last Saturday.

Wisconsin publishes most complete highway map for tourists

Madison Wis a new highway map issued by the Wisconsin Highway Commission claims to be the most complete for tourists. It covers the state trunk system including 1919 additions and adjoining areas in Illinois Iowa Michigan and Minnesota on eight map sections. It features a Distance Finding Table for 80 principal distribution centers and sold by the Superintendent of Public Property at twenty five cents each, five for one dollar. Greater quantities available. wall maps at two dollars will be released soon.

Washburn High School Exhibit Impresses at Y M C A

The domestic science and manual training exhibit at the Y M C A hosted by Washburn High School drew a large crowd last Thursday and Friday. Miss Inga Wollum led domestic science and E V Albrechtson taught manual training. Displays ranged from beginner needlework to finished tables and gun cases. Luncheons were served each evening by the domestic department.

Washburn Manufacturing Company Erecting New Excelsior Plant

Washburn Manufacturing Company advances its new excelsior plant with arrival of machines and erection crews. An addition is being built on the Stearns Lumber site, now Anchor Ship, to house manufacturing operations. Timber is cut and barked for processing as July operations begin, employing about twenty men with planned crew expansion.

Local Social Notes Include Travel and a Dance Event

Mrs William Aldrich and daughter left for Duluth after a city visit with Mr and Mrs Geo Posey. Miss Florence Oberts went to Superior to visit friends. Mr and Mrs James McIntosh and son visited at John Burke's home from Superior. A party hosted by Miss Oberts featured dancing and a midnight luncheon. E Schultheis departed for Kentucky for a week or ten days on business.

Washburn to field a strong baseball team this season

Citizens back the Washburn team with financial support and a solid treasury. Manager W F Joani s is arranging players and a schedule. Grounds near the depot have been prepared and the team will start as soon as a game is secured.

Alma Jacobson of Warren School Oulu wins the Bayfield County Spelling Contest with high marks in spelling writing and arithmetic. Helen Hnath and Vera Von Ende finish second and third. Miss Florence Dibbell daughter of Mr and Mrs George Dibbell of this city and Mr Harold Moore were married at Rockford Illinois on Wednesday of last week according to the bride's sister. Both are well known Washburn people born here and they resided here most of their lives. Mr Moore served in the American army in the war with Germany and saw extensive world war service. Friends extend congratulations.
