Commander Werder of Ashland invited the Washburn Naval Militia to join Ashland’s big parade on July 4. The Washburn Division accepted and will ride boats provided by the Ashland Militia to view hydroplane flights. The Washburn unit plans a July 3 meeting to receive new white suits before the event.
Norwegian Lutheran Church will hold services next Sunday evening starting at 8 o'clock. The Ladies Aid Society plans a meeting next Wednesday afternoon at Mrs. James Kinney's Bayfield Street home. Mrs. B F Runkle attended the Beaver Fraternity annual meeting in Chippewa Falls as a local lodge delegate, with George Calder also present. Monuments at Hansens.
Rev. Richard Krenke of New London Wisconsin was installed as pastor of the German Ev Lutheran St. John’s church in this city last Sunday. Rev. H F C Schultz of Ashland conducted the installation. The church was crowded with a large Ashland delegation. Rev. Krenke and family have just arrived. the church had no resident pastor for some time with Schultz guiding services.
Irederic Cranefield secretary of the Wisconsin Horticultural Society spent hours in the city and backed Bayfield County as ideal for fruit farms. He believes commercial fruit can be grown successfully in the region, noting his early doubts are now swept away and this is the coming fruit section of the state.
Mr Bennett E White of Minot North Dakota married Polly Maslowski at Holy Family Church in Ashland. Washburn friends extend congratulations to the couple. See Hansen for Tents and Awa ings.
The council will hold an adjourned session at the Commercial Club rooms on Friday to act on sixteen saloon license applications. Names include John Donahue, Charles Brunner, Andy Murray, Martin Larson, W E Bennett, Vern Butler, Bernard Lee, Louis Holte, Charles Westlund, E G Bergen, Charles Nelson, John Johnson, Louis Wardner, Octave Upeey, Ed Skamfer, Fred Leveaux. The Schlitz Brewing Co may apply for wholesale license making seventeen. Charles Nelson may not apply. If all granted, city revenue reaches eight thousand dollars.
The Bayfield 4th of July Committee plans a boat departure around midnight to accommodate crowds from this city for the full celebration. Bayfield promises an excellent time.
The Ashland Masons will visit the local lodge this evening to confer a third degree on a candidate. Ashland past masters will conduct the ceremonies and a banquet will follow the initiation.
Street Commissioner Joe Arsen eau directs a crew laying a new cement curb along the upper Bayfield street between Clausen Corner and Washington avenue with active work ongoing.
Sealed bids will be received no later than noon July 1 1912 for labor and material to install a hot water heating plant in the Sisters' residence Washburn Wisconsin. Fred Carlson head millwright at Stearns Lumber Company suffered a severe back injury after falling from a railing into a ravine on West Bayfield Street Saturday night. He was treated at Rhinehardt Hospital in Ashland, with doctors stating his condition was critical and not expected to improve. Carlson, who has a family in Ashland, had been sitting on the railing to enjoy the night air before returning to his rooms.
Over the past week five vessels the Wright Fryer Kalkaska Bacon and Alaska have appeared loading cargoes at the lumber docks. More ships are expected and the lumber trade from the city is set to stay brisk, supporting a number of local workers.
In Bayfield County clover reportedly kills quack grass, a rare result nationwide. Dan Maxcy claims proof and cites a field where clover drives out the weed, challenging others to beat the claim.
Mr. M. Weeks and his family return from the Twin Cities and other points. He planned to buy a carload of cattle while away but found prices too high for the season.
John Walsh of Wisconsin gained prominence in the National Democratic Party by delivering the seconding speech placing Governor Woodrow Wilson of New Jersey in nomination for President of the United States at the National Democratic Convention.
Judge John Wescott and Mr Walsh back Woodrow Wilson at a Wisconsin delegation speech. They praise Wisconsin’s direct presidential primary, call for true representative government, and urge a leadership alignment with the era’s popular democracy.
Congress amended the Homestead law allowing final proof within three years instead of five. claimants must prove a habitable house and residence for at least three years, cultivate 24 acres per forty entered from year two and at least five acres per forty from year three, with testimony from the claimant and two witnesses. Prior entrants may choose old law by notifying the local land office. citizenship must be completed unless native born.
Bayfield County Farmers and Fruit Growers Association directors met last evening to select a site for a new concrete warehouse. The chosen location is on 1st avenue west across from the Omaha Round House. A building committee of George F. Morgan T. A. Oscar and Carl Hirsch will inspect the Bayfield warehouse area soon and a manager will be hired once construction begins to secure markets for farm and orchard produce.
The Pioneer Association invites members and applicants to a Commercial Club meeting on Monday evening July 8 to act on membership applications and finalize plans for its first annual picnic on August 15. Eligibility requires twenty five years residence in the city prior to July 1 1912. The group promises one of the city's largest picnics.

Jean Burdick daughter of Mr and Mrs E Burdick injures an eye when a girl throws a stick. she is under Dr Shaw in Ashland. Dorcas Society of the German Lutheran Church sets a lawn social at Wm Cordis home July 3 with ice cream cake lemonade candy and peanuts. prices same as usual.
