Narrow Escape as Wagon Hit by Northern Pacific Train
Fred Rowles, a workman at C. L. Willey livery barn, barely escaped serious harm when a team he drove was struck by a Northern Pacific train at Ninth Avenue. One horse died, the other injured. Rowles suffered a 20 stitch leg wound. He was dragged about 100 feet. train engineer did not whistle or ring a bell. Rowles is treated at St. Joseph hospital in Ashland.
