County Clerk records show June 1920 as the banner month with 20 marriage licenses issued, the highest on record. The shift in brides favors practicality over fashion, as professional men lag in wage gains while laborers prosper, and brides seek steady homes with plain, well furnished domestic prospects.
Webster City Iowa July 7 Arthur Bundy drove an Overland truck all day using no gasoline or oil and drawing power from air given by chemicals he mixed. The system also produces light and heat, costs about five cents to run, and may lead to compact engines weighing under eighty pounds with no spark plugs.
The Washburn Garden Club plans its annual picnic for July 20 on the lake shore near the pumping station. About 250 members from the district will attend with Earl J. Cooper of Madison set to entertain with songs and stunts. Prizes from local merchants will reward top garden and farm exhibits ahead of the Bayfield County fair.

George Froney leads Orienta town efforts to attract settlers and improve roads.

Dr Albert Axeley is accused of taking more than his own catch as Alex Gackowski testifies the doctor uses deception to reel in fish including ones tied and gagged. Gackowski says the doctor claimed both fish and bait after a snag varied into a live catch not tied to any human. The incident reportedly occurred near Washburn.

Eugene O'Brien stars in A Fool and his Money at the YMCA next Wednesday. Manager Robert Downs of Medford Light and Heating visited the city during the 5th, touring with his parents and friends. He returned the same evening to supervise the new Deisel engine installation at the Medford plant.
The YMCA mixer last Friday evening offered dancing games and contests with refreshments. Members and their wives and lady friends enjoyed a lively party as the popular YMCA events draw large attendance.
Sportsmen are urged to attend a Wisconsin Conservation Commission hearing on closing the deer season. The meeting will be at the city courthouse next Tuesday evening July 15.
