This morning a sledge hammer tore the safe dial from John Johnson's blacksmith shop and an entry was gained via a window. At the creamery owned by Charles Durr burglars visited, back door jimmied, about five dollars in silver stolen. The ice house looked used as a lounging place. A month earlier an unsuccessful safe blow at the N. P. depot showed similar methods, though no expert skills were evident.

Holstein Breeders Hold Annual Picnic and Meeting

The Anchor Shipbuilding company launched the steel double end ferry Hudson Athens Monday at 4 30 p m after a week of failed attempts. Tug Williams and England Towings scow aided the final pull from the ways into the bay and eventual escort to Buffalo to enter Erie canal service between Hudson and Athens. The 115 by 44 foot vessel features oil engines and a top speed of about twelve knots, marking a notable achievement for the Anchor yard and a new passenger link on the Hudson river.
