Death of Washburn pioneer Tobias Ailey Oscar
Tobias Atley Oscar a Washburn pioneer died suddenly at age 68 from heart trouble. Born in Flekkefjord Norway he moved to Iowa then Wisconsin before settling in Washburn. He served as town supervisor and city council member, helped found local farms and dairy groups, and was active in the Maccabee lodge and Scandinavian American Society. Funeral services were held at his late residence with burial at Woodland cemetery.

Great Lakes Fleet To Visit Chequamegon Bay July 19
Chequamegon Bay will host the Great Lakes Fleet on Tuesday July 19 as seven training boats arrive from the Fourth District Squadron. The visit, arranged with the Navy Department, will run 8 A.M. Tuesday to 8 A.M. Wednesday, with open inspections and a civic reception by local vessels under American flags.

Ray Coats Named Deputy Prohibition Enforcer

Library board holds annual meeting and reports
Free Public Library directors met last Monday at the library led by President C. E. Hulteen. Librarian reports 31 042 books loaned in the year with 12 973 to juveniles and 6 655 to schools. 3 432 increase in school loans. 334 news cards issued. 181 adults and 153 juveniles. 132 books rebound. 200 new books added. 142 withdrawn. 6 111 volumes now on shelves. August renovation included wall redecorating and thorough cleaning. gratitude to Woman's Council for shrubbery.

Memorial Park Becomes Popular Free Camping Spot
About three hundred fifty people spent last Sunday at Memorial Park designated as a free camping place for summer tourists. Thirty four automobiles were present including seven foreign cars, showing growing popularity. The park lies between the lake and the Omaha tracks, easily accessible with pine shade, an excellent bathing beach and bath house, and cooking fireplaces. It is being advertised by visitors.

Sunday evening features College Night run by young people who studied at college this past year with everyone invited. New ferry Hudson Athens leaves for Erie canal voyage
The Anchor Shipbuilding built double end steel ferry Hudson Athens left Saturday morning at 4 30 in tow for Buffalo to pass through the Erie canal to Hudson where it will be completed and enter service as a passenger and freight steamer. Captain Doherty was absent. crew include Mike Nelson cook and on board are Robert Carr Thomas E Watson M Holm e Amos Nelson Benj White and Herbert Berggren. The ship is due in Buffalo late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning and then continues to Hudson.
