Masons of the city held their St Johns day installation with a large attendance and social card play. Deputy Grands Master F. T. Beers and Grand Marshall A. W. McLeod conducted the ceremonies. A letter from Seattle, Washington, reports the death of Fen Riley, formerly of Washburn. The funeral occurred in Seattle late last week. Riley was married to Marguerite Daly, daughter of Mrs Wieman, and the couple lived here for years before moving west. They had several children who survive the father and wife. Washburn friends extend sympathy to the family.
Rose Gease and Wi R Argyle wed December 24 1920 at First Baptist Chicago Rev Baker officiated. Bride's family announces the marriage and says the couple will travel to the east and south then reside in Chicago. Argyle with Sinclaire Refining. Mrs Argyle a Washburn High and Superior State Normal graduate who taught in East Chicago until resigning December 3 1920.
Prohibition agents arrived in Hurley to investigate liquor operations tied to T N Okerstrom who leads a Bayfield County power dam project at Oriental Falls on Iron River. Twenty men are employed, buildings erected, and dam construction is advancing toward a three thousand horsepower plant with initial 1200 HP, plus plans for 1000 HP later. The new company plans a power line to Iron River Port Wing and a loop around Chequamegon Bay via Bayfield and Washburn, funded by bonds.
The Bayfield county special highway committee led by D A Monroe Washburn George Karron and E F Degniels is evaluating a petition to adopt a new highway linking Nos 10 and 24 through central Bayfield County. They traveled the proposed 40 mile route between Iron River and Drummond to assess feasibility and regional benefits for the county system.

A separate North Wisconsin raid rounded up 57 alleged liquor violators in Hurley, with U S deputies conducting a major Volstead Act arrest operation.
Levi Stefinski plans a new ice rink at 4 point east of the old Commercial dock. Snow is being cleared and the rink prepared for business soon. He will keep the rink open as long as patrons warrant.
Walter Elmer and Bert Robinson escaped injury after a knot water heater exploded at the Robinson barber shop last Sunday morning. The blast sent steam and soot everywhere and a cast iron piece embedded in a desk, but both men were unharmed beyond splashes.
A Superior movement to place the postmastership under civil service rules gains statewide momentum. Local figures indicate Wisconsin Republicans press Harding to overturn Wilson era orders affecting Milwaukee and other posts including Superior Sheboygan Oshkosh Racine Madison and Eau Claire. Russell remains noncommittal after returning from Washington.
