Land clearing drive aims to 10000 acres in Washburn county

Birchwood Wisconsin December 17 A county wide land clearing plan brought farmers bakers business leaders and club members together to organize local clubs and set a goal to clear at least 10000 acres of stumps and brush. Prizes will be offered for the greatest advances by individual settlers as officials and agents spoke on immigration and agriculture.

Proposed Bill Would Put Skids Under Town Assessor

Madison Wis Dec 16 The state tax commission urges abolition of the town assessor office and election of a county assessor by civil service for a long term with adequate pay It also backs repeal of the personal property offset to income tax and other changes including extending the family exemption to nonresidents and taxing dividends if the personal property provision is removed The commission notes only 57 percent of income tax levies were cash collected from 1913 to 1920 and total levies exceeded 53 million dollars with 43 percent offset by personal property tax
